During my conversations with my father when I was growing up, he said to me “The world is not ready to hear the truth”. My experiences have borne out that personal truths as well as wider political ones are difficult to deal with. The illusion is more comfortable than the reality. The only downside of course is that living a lie yields no progress – whether we are talking about an individual or a Nation. Living a lie renders us absurd. We are unable to progress if we cannot acknowledge the problems that stand in front of us.
So, for many years I had to agree with his point of view. But we have reached a point of no return. It has become crucial to our very survival that the problems are finally faced and the solutions quickly addressed. It only remains for us to overcome the obstacle, and not to be unimaginative in that task.
In this particular case, what will our world look like if the media gamble on telling us the truth?
So here we are in the future. Now your everyday mass media tell us that we are, in fact, an accessory to murder and robbery, just like they were. They no longer wish to offer bogus justifications for slaughter in the name of freedom and democracy. They no longer wish to provide a service to absolve our conscience with cover-ups and fake rationalisations. They no longer wish to look the other way.
So now what? We can always say that we suspected, but that we never knew. But now we know. We’re not being offered the opportunity to look the other way anymore. We’ve now been told that we make our living by complicity with murderers and thieves. We are part of the global conspiracy of silence held in place by bribery, blackmail and terror.
So what do we do? We have to choose. Do we continue as a slave of the criminals? Or do we return to ally with people interested in justice? Choose. With the veneer of respectability removed, it is possible to continue. But now we have made our choice then there is no hiding. We have to say, I conspire with criminals because I choose to do so.
Religion and now the Media, have always been the way in which brutal behaviour is rendered respectable by distortion, delusion and lie.
There are many unthinkable mass media headlines in its new, more honest future…
“There is an American Empire”
“The Third World War started immediately after the Second”
“The US is a leading terrorist state.”
“The US supports dictators to overthrow democracies”, or, “Washington blocks international negotiation, political settlements and peace processes in favour of military coups to install murderous fascist scum offering best concessions to U.S. corporations.”
“The Real Winner of the Second World War was Hitler”, or, “The US re-deployed Nazis and their tactics after World War 2 to carry the war on into Latin America.
Or how about this as an unthinkable mass media story reported in 1975?
USA owns up to genocide.
By our Reporter in the Cambodian Killing Fields, December 1975.
The US Secretary of State issued a statement today that the United States have been secretly bombing Cambodia for the last six years. He admitted that the US have killed about 600,000 people over that period and estimated that 1 million would die subsequently of hunger and disease in the wreckage. He also stated that the U.S. and the UK are supplying military training for Pol Pot’s exiled thugs in Malaysia,
All true at the time and in hindsight. But not fit for publication, then or now.
Or how about this splashed over page 1 in 1945?…
USA decide against other nations having a right to Sovereignty.
By our Reporter in Washington, November 1945.
US planners at the end of the second world war have decided on a “Grand Area” strategy, and to define the rest of the world as US resources to be exploited over and above the interests of the national peoples who rightfully own them.
A problem cannot be addressed until it is first acknowledged. But as any individual who has finally ended the terror of living a lie will tell you, tomorrow is a much better day than yesterday.
